Tarifa festivals

The two main traditional festivals of Tarifa are the Summer Feria and the Romeria de la virgin de la Sanctuario de la Luz.

Cabalgata Reyes Magos
Three Kings procession is celebrated on the evening of 5 January.

Carnival
The Carnival is celebrated in February.

Semana Santa
Holy Week (dates vary each year).

San Juan
San Juan is traditionally celebrated on the eve of and the day of San Juan which is 24 June.

Virgin del Carmen
The traditional procession of the Virgen del Carmen in Tarifa is always on the 16th July. It begins with a mass at 12:00 hrs at the Church of San Mateo on Calle Sancho IV el Bravo 8. At 19.00 hrs, the procession begins, following a route along Calle Sancho IV el Bravo, then Calle Alcalde Juan Núñez, and finally to the fishing harbour. The statue is carefully loaded onto the boat for the traditional blessing of the waters of the Strait, accompanied by a flotilla of boats. In the morning, the fishing port is the place to watch the children's games organised by the Fishermen's Guild, which culminate in a free tasting of sardines and rice — an event open to residents and visitors alike.

Summer Feria
The Real Feria Summer Feria in Tarifa traditionally takes place in the first week in September. More about summer ferias>

Romeria Virgen de la Luz
The Romeria Virgen de la Luz Pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen de la Luz traditionally takes place in the last week in September. The pilgrimage starts at the Sanctuary de la Luz located 8 km from Tarifa. More about Romerias>
