Alpujaras - Itinerary from Granada airport
Itinerary: Granada - Lanjaron - Orgiva - Trevelez - Yegen - Granada - (1 week).
From Granada, take the N323 south, climbing up into the mountains and turning off to the left (A348) to Lanjaron. This spa town is famous for its springs and bottled mineral water. Carry on through the Alpujarras to Orgiva in the Guadalfeo valley, with its hippy community.
After Torvizcon, take a left turn on the GR413/GR421, heading north which will take you to the isolated village of Trevelez, high in the Sierra Nevada. Famous for its ham, this is an ideal starting point for hikes into the Sierra.
To leave, you come back down south again, then head east again on the A348. If you continue along this windy road, you will reach the tiny village of Yegen, where Gerald Brenan lived, and which was the setting for South from Granada. From Yegen take the GR431, turn left onto the A337 until you meet the A92, and turn left. Now you will head west back to Granada, with the Sierra to the south, on your left-hand side.
The Alpujarras are ideal for a week's holiday, allowing time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and small villages.
