BOUTIQUE HOTEL SEVILLE - CASA DEl Poeta

Why should I stay there?

To be in the heart of the action: this small hotel is on a street connecting the cathedral and Plaza Nueva, and close to innumerable tapas bars and restaurants. It has pretty rooms with lots of character, friendly staff, and good prices.

What kind of person stays there?

Those of independent mind who don't need all the bells and whistles of five (or even four)-star service, but who want an excellent location and interiors with style.

Where is it?

In a plum spot - right in the heart of the city, a stone's throw from Plaza Nueva. Its street has a few tourist-tat shops, but also some great tapas bars and restaurants (Picalagartos bar, Filo café and Mamarracha restaurant).

What's it like?

It's in a traditional 19th-century house with a delightfully light central patio, thanks to its glass roof. The patio has unusual decorative features such as cast-iron columns and a locally-revered tiled image of the Virgin. The overall atmosphere is a happy marriage of classic Sevillano features (hydraulic tiles, tall windows) and less typical cobalt-blue stained-glass windows. From the roof terrace you get a good Giralda view. The hotel is family owned, with a member usually on site, so the service is always warm and friendly.

What are the rooms like?

Rooms have a quirky, cheerful yet historic feel, thanks to exposed brick walls and turquoise-panted woodwork. Furniture is eclectic, including repurposed pieces such as antique doors-turned-headboards. Some rooms look onto calle Hernando Colon, which is atmospheric and buzzy but noisy; a few have balconies or terraces.

What should I eat there?

Breakfast can be served either in the patio, up on the roof terrace or in your room. For other meals, you have plenty of superb options on your doorstep; to eat in, there's a take-away service with various options, handy for tired families.

What should I see and do in the area?

The cathedral is just steps away to the left, and Plaza Nueva, with its statue and palm tree-shaded benches, a minute's walk to the right, as well as the main shopping area and Plaza San Francisco.
