Hotel Boutique Convento

This new one-star hotel is in a stunning historic setting: a converted Dominican convent dating from 1635. In addition to the magnificent original arcaded patio, complete with chequered floor and stone-and-iron wells, it still has cloisters, a church (Santo Domingo) and chapel. Monks still inhabit the building today.

This delightful two-star hotel is in a 19th-century building with beautiful original stone façade. Décor is tasteful and imaginative, with loads of character – colourful tiled floors, Moroccan lamps, beamed ceilings, decorative mirrors, and carved wooden doors and screens.

This nine-storey hotel is situated on long, sandy La Caleta beach - its façade is simple and classic, and the interior was refurbished in 2013. The 143 rooms are spacious and modern, with wood floors - be sure to ask for a superior room with sea view, on a higher floor, so you can enjoy the spectacular sunset. Tea and coffee making facilities also in superior rooms. All have free WIFI and satellite TV. Family rooms have bunk beds.

Playa Victoria Hotel

This four-star hotel, with smoked glass façade, looks over the long sandy beach, and is located about 30 minutes’ walk from the old town. Each of the spacious rooms – there are 188 – has a 1960s-style pod-like curved white balcony, with décor in muted, neutral tones; 32-inch TVs offer multimedia applications. Suites have their own private terraces. WIFI is free.

Parador de Malaga Golf

This hotel is a unique concept in Paradores as it is the only golf hotel in the chain. A comfortable, modern and cosy facility with banquet facilities and a lovely dining room, this Parador is right on the edge of the Costa del Sol with an undeveloped stretch of beach right in front of the hotel and a beachside promenade to the right (if you are looking at the hotel towards the sea) that now provides a thoroughly enjoyable walk to nearby Torremolinos.

This four-star hotel in a traditional 17th-century Cordoban house, one street away from the Mezquita, is classic-contemporary in style. Its 10 rooms and suites, over two floors, are tastefully decorated in soothing, muted tones of cream and beige, with marble columns and comfortable beds. Some rooms have wooden shutters and vaulted rooves; windows open onto the street, or to interior patios.

This family-run hotel, hidden away down a quiet street near the river (former name, Calle del Viento), has just seven slickly-designed rooms. Officially two-star rated, it’s a converted 16th-century house which marries original architecture – stone columns, arcaded patios - with contemporary design – angular furniture, natural materials and neutral colours.

NH Hesperia Cordoba

This four-star hotel is located on the river Guadalquivir, just across from the Mezquita. A short walk over Book now!the Roman Bridge will take to the old centre. A striking pink building with towers, its location on the riverbank allows it a feeling of space.

Eurostars Palace

This large five-star hotel has a contemporary design, with light-coloured wood and sleek, modern touches such as statement lights and chairs. A newly-built, six-storey building with distinctive exterior of perforated, rusty metal, it has stylish furniture and a feeling of space and light.

Hotel Exe Conquistador

The four-star hotel features a traditional, leafy arcaded Andalusian courtyard with cobblestone and bricks floor, where meals are served in fine weather, as well as a garden with wrought-iron benches surrounding a fountain, shaded by orange trees.

Casa Morisca

This three-star hotel was originally a morisco residence – Moors who stayed on after the Christian reconquest by the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. With just 14 rooms, the beautifully restored Granada house epitomises the intimate atmosphere of the Albaicin, with its narrow streets and centuries-old houses. The interior courtyard has a morisco pool which dates from when the house was first built.

Casa 1800

Sister property of Seville’s Casa 1800, this three-star hotel is located in the atmospheric hillside Moorish quarter below Granada’s Nasrid palace. The hotel features a blend of period and contemporary: exposed brick walls and flagstone floors, with baroque furniture and tactile velvet cushions.

Room Mate Leo

Part of the excellent Spanish-owned Room Mate group, known for its attentive service, great style and superb value, this three-star hotel marries a traditional building with modern decor. Located on a pedestrian street, it is just 300 metres from the Plaza Bib-Rambla next to Granada cathedral, with its famous terrace restaurants.

Molinos

This one-star hotel, located in the Realejo area of Granada city, holds the Guinness World Record for being the narrowest hotel in the world (five metres). Its 18 rooms (single, double, triple and family, see below) are small but well-appointed, with chic bendy LED reading lights and 32-inch flat-screen TVs; décor features padded headboards, white furniture, with purple wall-coverings which lend it an upmarket feel.

Carlos V

Located close to the famous tapas bars of Calle Navas, this cheerful one-star hotel offers excellent value for money, with 23 colourful rooms (lime-green walls, pink chairs) and pretty mosaic-tiled bathrooms featuring hydromassages showers. WIFI is free. You can choose from single, double, triple or quadruple rooms; one has a four-poster. The two top rooms each has a Jacuzzi and terrace.
