Láchar
Láchar is an ideal destination for rural tourism due to its natural environment and location, situated between forests and fertile fields. It has about 3000 inhabitants.
History
The earliest known human settlements date back to the Neolithic period, when people chose the most fertile lands to settle. Subsequently, Vega de Granada was inhabited by the Turduli, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans. Láchar, due to its elevated location near the Genil River, was home to some of these peoples. Near Lacen, the name given to Láchar by the Phoenicians and Romans, there are Roman archaeological sites, such as the ancient villae rusticae of Adamucejo (present-day Daimuz Bajo) and Daragoleja, which administratively belonged to the Roman villa of Ilurco. Castillo-Palacio
The castle was rebuilt on the remains of an Arab communication fortress, of which a tower dating from 1500 is still preserved. It sits on a 7,200m² plot, with the building itself occupying approximately 2,000m². Surrounded by gardens that highlight the building’s vibrant colours, it comprises a series of interconnected towers with battlements and pointed horseshoe arches. Located on Calle Real. More>
Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora del Rosario
The parish church construction is relatively recent, dating from the twentieth century, specifically 1951. The church stands almost entirely isolated and is of considerable size. Located on Calle Real. More>
Things to see outside the town
Ermita de San Isidro
This chapel, built in the twenty first century, is located in the area known as “El Pinar”. With very simple architectural lines, it features a single rectangular nave. The entrance at the foot of the nave consists of a simple, slightly pointed, semicircular arch in exposed brick, whose jambs extend to the ground. Iglesia De San Pío X
A church with modern lines that stands in the Plaza Mayor of Peñuelas, a town belonging to the municipality of Láchar, and was built in 1959. Its exterior is notable for its tall and slender isolated tower, quite displaced to one side, to which a pergola made of brick and segmental arches is attached, connecting it to the main body of the church. Puente Eiffel
The Eiffel Bridge originally allowed passage over the Genil River by train, and later by road traffic, until its final closure in 2006. It was designed by the school of the Frenchman, Gustave Eiffel (architect of the Eiffel Tower), and is considered the last vestige of the Industrial Revolution in the Vega of Granada. More>

Ruta del Señorío de Láchar
This route is linked in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to Julio Quesada Cañaveral y Piédrola, Lord of Láchar, Count of Benalúa y Las Villas, Duke of San Pedro de Galatino, and Grandee of Spain, who built a sugar factory, a castle, and a reservoir, among other things. The route is relatively new, so the signage is in excellent condition and it’s easy to follow, however, caution is advised during rainy periods, as the underpass beneath the highway acts as a drainage channel. The most beautiful spots are the pine forests, the reservoir, and its floodplain.

Gastronomy
Láchar boasts a rich gastronomy that delights even the most discerning palates. Its traditional dishes reflect the essence of Andalusian cuisine such as migas (fried bread with pork), puchero (meat and bean stew), gazpacho (cold tomato soup), revuelto de espárragos (asparagus scrambled eggs), habas fritas (fried broad beans with jamón), faisán con trufa (pheasant with black truffle) and choto al ajillo (garlic lamb). For something sweet, try tortas (sweet olive oil bread) and bollo de San Marcos (sweet bread with a boiled egg).
